THE EXPERIENCE OF TERRACHIDIA
THE TERRACHIDIA ASSOCIATION
Terrachidia is a NGOD founded in 2012, which is made up of a group of specialists in Heritage Preservation and in Cooperation for Development, who find traditional architecture and especially earth building as the point where both fields come together and where they can be also linked to Education and to Responsible Tourism Promotion.
Based on this mentioned formula, we develop our project in Spain and Morocco, mostly in the M'Hamid oasis. There, 15 workshops have been organized between 2012 and 2017, in which more than 300 people from all over the world have participated. Several constructions have been restored within these workshops always in collaboration with the local population of the oasis.
After these first years of activity, it can be stated that Terrachidia has fulfilled the objective of establishing a strong and continuous base of work, both in Spain, especially in the University, as in the M'Hamid Oasis, where we have the confidence of the local population.
Many people have already gone through the workshops, and all of them renewed their vision of both the culture that welcomes us there, as of its architectural tradition. Each and every one of us, to a greater or lesser extent, became a new promoter of change, demonstrating the multiplier effect that this work produces. Meeting this growing group of people, of very different ages and occupations, is a success by itself, and it helps to see with optimism the uncertain future of this heritage.
Even if many people collaborate or have collaborated with the association, Terrachidia is made up of:
